To the good folks at Tolman Media,
Typically I apply for jobs on indeed.com using my standard CV and a cover letter. After reading your job posting, and checking out your website and instagram page, I was compelled to bring together some of the highlights from wedding I shot over the summer in 2020. I felt representing here on my website would be the best way to represent the most recent work I have done, and indeed the work I am most proud of.
To provide a short summary of myself; I am a freelance photographer and videographer. In over seven years working in this field, I have fulfilled many different roles in all facets of multimedia production, and I feel this has made me the well rounded multimedia professional I am today. From shooting documentaries for NGOs in some of the most challenging places on earth, to working as a multi-skilled studio operator at the Burberry HQ in London, my diverse skillset has allowed me to fulfil so many different roles.
In the last few years, my primary focus has been on creating content for small businesses, as well as re-establishing myself as a wedding photographer (a field I stopped working in for a number of years after being disenchanted by the type of work I was creating). Now I am approaching it with many more years of experience under my belt, and fresh skills and perspectives which I feel can add value in this industry.
I would describe my personal style as documentary focused, with an emphasis on the people and memories that make a wedding day special. I prefer not to stage moments and shots if I can help it, shooting with a minimal and discreet kit, and trying to blend into the background; capturing moments as they occur organically. The video I have linked below contains some of the highlights from weddings I shot in August 2020, after reading your posting I quickly selected some of my favourite clips and edited them over some music. 99% of the video below was shot handheld with a top handle, as I feel this gives me the most discreet and flexible setup. I do shoot with a gimbal especially for establishing shots, or to grab some extra shots during the couple shoot.
I shoot photography with a Canon 6D + 24-70mm L f/2.8II, and I shoot video on a pair of Panasonic GH5s, which I mount EF lenses on to using a speed booster. I have various other lenses for certain functions but this is my primary setup.
Over the course of the last ten years, I have had experience in so many different fields (e.g. event planning and management), I feel this makes me an incredibly well rounded wedding professional who is able to contribute much more than simply being a photographer on the day. I try to be a friend and an asset to the couple who makes their day easier and more enjoyable.
Above all else, I am passionate above capturing people's precious memories in the best way possible, treating them with the care they deserve, and delivering them the best possible heirlooms for their family, shot in a timeless and classic style which they can look back on for years to come. I am very enthusiastic about learning and developing my skills, and I would really love to shoot more white english weddings as I feel they represent a culture and style which I haven't been able to capture much in my work. I am also enthusiastic about carrying out more couple's shoots (as this isn't always a priority at Asian weddings), developing my skills in posing couples, as well as incorporating drone shots into my work.
Overall I feel I would be well suited to the role you have advertised, and I hope the words I have expressed here as well as the work I have attached below will speak to that. I look forward to hearing from you!
Thank you,
Faizal
